And Back From Scotland Too

Well, to conclude the theme of visiting very cold places this winter, I went for a quick photography trip to Scotland. A few days in the stunning Fort William area were a pleasant break – photographing the lochs and mountines, trying a whiskey or two, and wondering how this could be the same language. The area is extremely beautiful, although I imagine it’s even nicer in spring when it’s all green and full of wildlife. Despite the radio TA system warning us of imminent doom on the roads, it was all fine and the biggest dangers while driving were dead wolves, crossing deer, and even a local shooting guns through the window while driving. Anyway, I’m back to the not-much-warmer London and promise to update this post with some photos once I go through them.
Back From Austria

I’m back from yet another snowboarding trip in Austria, miraculously unhindered by all the travel service cancellations last week. Well, I had a cracking time. I can thoroughly recommend the Hochkönig region near Salzburg for its great snow, stunning views and inexhaustible supplies of good food and schnapps… I’m missing it all already! I may post some photos but I first have to attend to 187 unread emails and all the various reports, numbers, pings, pokes and tweets that I’ve missed out on.
Back From Bulgaria With Love

I’m just back from my holiday in Bulgaria – and what a cracking week that was! Gorgeous sun, enormous drinks and familiar old faces. One particular place in Varna, however, combines all of these three. It has done so for years and therefore it deserves a special overdue mention.
It’s the little unpretentious ship by the first wing dam on the central beach (where the
is.) It hosts a restaurant and a bar on each of its two decks, and I felt particularly at home on the latter. Thanks to everyone who somehow materialised there over the last few nights, I personally enjoyed those nights even more than I hated the mornings after. And if any of you haven’t been there and happen to be in town, do pay the little ship a visit, it’s well worth it. (Just to let you know, the parrot is fake. As is the blond.)
And to complete the Bulgarian theme in this post, I present you one of the nation’s important inventions. pictured on the right. An astounding piece of technology that serves a purpose so specialised it has no parallel even amongst the most advanced civilisations. Beer to anyone who can guess what it is…
